This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was crafted from a selection of prime Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards from our Robertson Estate including a site located on the South-East facing slope of the Rooiberg Mountain that incorporates the game reserve on the Graham Beck property. The vines are planted on red Karoo soil which is also home to the delicate, yet tough fynbos that the game feed on next to the vineyard. Once in the cellar, the fruit is destalked, gently crushed and fermented with 4 daily pump-overs to ensure maximum extraction.
Once dry, the juice is pressed and transferred into 2nd fill French and American Oak for malolactic fermentation in barrel. The wine is then kept for a further 9 months of maturation in barrel to gain complexity and a full mouthfeel. Great complexity of black berry fruit, dark chocolate and plums on the nose. This wine has a rich, juicy entry supported by firm tannins. An elegant creamy palate leads to a long lingering finish.
Ashton previously known as Roodewal is where this superb blend originated from. With suble after-taste of dark fruit, blackforest cake, cassis and cigar box, this wine pays homeage to our beloved district, it’s people and it’s heritage. 40% Pinotage, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon & 30% Shiraz
Cabernet Sauvignon and Touriga Nacional in perfect harmony. Opulent plums and black cherries with cigar box and vanilla spicing. Matured for 24 months in new oak. Vibrant, elegant, already showing silky accessibility but with a long life ahead.
A superb blend of The Family of Red wines: Merlot (35%), Pinotage (30%), Shiraz (15%), Tinta Barocca (10%), Ruby Cabernet (5%) and Touriga Nacional (5%). Flavours of ripe berry and plum with layers of creamy vanilla, nuts and dark chocolate on the palate. A perfect partner for red meat.
This Merlot shows a lovely interplay of fruit flavours with hints of chocolate and black currant pastille, rounded off by soft oak. With loads of ripe berry fruit, this is the ideal wine to serve with flavourful meat dishes.
The 2013 vintage was picked earlier than 2012 and this resulted in a more elegant wine with lovely pure floral and fruit flavours like melon, white peach, pear and apricot on the nose. The relatively high acidity keeps the wine fresh. We believe that it can be enjoyed on its own or with white meat, roast pork, cream based dishes or a variety of seafood dishes.
Pink fun in a bottle! This lovely blend of crisp white wine and natural flavours of Pomegranite and Marula (a little known fruit native to Africa), makes it the ultimate summer sipper. The perfect balance of exotic fruit and a touch of fizz, offers a celebration in every glass. An ideal wine for any occasion!
This single vineyard wine is made with minimal interference throughout the vinification. During fermentation natural yeast is used and no enzymes. Maturation takes place in neutral vessels to bring through the unique vineyard characteristics.
The palate delivers a lively mousse but fine in the mouth, with subtle red berry flavours enlivened by bright acids. Showing hints of oyster shell and fresh lavender. Flirtatious and fun, yet elegant and structured, it’s perfect for all seasons and settings. The ultimate in food friendly wines.
A bright lemon yellow coloured wine with lime tinged rim; bouquet leaps from the glass with intense ripe Hanepoot grapes, pineapple, lemon rind, litchi and winter melon intermingled with hints of jasmine, honey suckle and faint spicy notes. A lusciously sweet, mouth-watering palate of crammed full of fresh Sultana, honey, litchi, melon, fig leaf, lemon and lime marmalade undercurrents, all buoyed by zippy acidity and lingering hints of citrus rind and subtle minerality.
Incredible rich black red colour-superb balance. Concentrated dense fruit, great complexity for a 2015 and it is just so drinkable already. It is a wine which want to be tasted again and again. Good but not overwhelming concentration of wood with lots of black and red cherry and nice hints of tobacco. Nice, elegant tannins makes this wine perfectly nice and firm. Should get better for another 12 years plus due to its perfect balance
Our Merlot is the epitome of the well-rounded FAT bastard.
It is made from carefully selected grapes with the aim to produce a ripe-flavoured and silky textured wine. All fruit is gently pressed to retain fruit aromas and character.
The wine is aged in small oak barrels, adding greater weight and complexity. With a deep ruby hue, our Merlot boasts aromas of ripe berries leading to a juicy palate of summer fruits and black cherry with soft, rounded tannins to finish.
Vintage Conditions The 2015 harvest had the earliest start in decades and was also one of the driest in years, with a 2 percent smaller grape harvest promising exceptional wines. Warm weather in August resulted in earlier bud break, after which a warm, dry and windy summer kept vineyard growth under control and accelerated ripening. Although the dry, warm conditions and a lack of rain necessitated additional irrigation, the dry weather during harvest time was ideal to ensure healthy grapes without diseases or rot. This dryland region crops decreased, but smaller berries promise remarkable quality.
