Bergsig Wine Estate

Bergsig Wine Estate is located in the Breedekloof Wine Valley near the Breerivier, between Worcester and Rawsonville in the Western Cape. The estate has been owned by the Lategan family since 1843. The family’s roots in the South African wine industry date back to 1735, and today the seventh generation continues the winemaking tradition.

The estate sits at the foot of the Drakenstein and Hex River mountain ranges, an area known for its distinctive terroir and mountain-fed water sources. Bergsig is a true estate winery, meaning all grapes are grown, vinified, and bottled on the property. The farm follows sustainable farming practices and is certified under the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) program. More than 437 hectares of natural mountain, river, and valley terrain are conserved on the estate.

The vineyards are planted on ancient sandstone-derived soils in a Mediterranean climate. Cool mountain winds and significant day-night temperature differences promote slow ripening, resulting in concentrated flavours and balanced acidity.
