Jacie Oosthuizen, whose family has farmed fruit, vegetables and export Proteas, attracted a few passionate wine lovers to invest in a dream of owning a cellar thar produces iconic, world class wines. This marked the establishment of Lord’s Wines 2003.
The wine farm of 33ha is part of the original Oosthuizen farmland and the name “Lord’s” is a result of Jacie’s devotion to the game of cricket and its home – Lord’s Home of Cricket – in North West London.
The cellar, which holds all the modern equipment to produce world class wines, was built in time to receive the maiden harvest in 2006 and bears testament to the involvement and energy of Lord’s shareholders. The market reaction was positive and the maiden Pinot Noir was soon sold out.
This terroir was identified as being suitable for an exclusive winery, capable of producing grapes of high quality from specially selected cultivars. The concept of terroir was the main influence in choosing the right cultivars for Lord’s Wines.
A sensational flavour affirms the very best food enhancing characteristics of this luscious Shiraz grape. Oak matured to produce a silky, velvety mouth-feel with a slightly spicy feeling on the swallow. Distinctive pepper tones with underlying berry and liquorice flavours balanced with detectable but fine tannins. A sheer, dining delight. The grapes were handpicked.
A refreshing and aromatic dry white wine, with a lingering aftertaste and fresh, crisp swallow. Served chilled it will complement any dining table. Crisp fresh style, citrus aromas with grassy tropical fruit flavours.
The soft, velvety cherry and earthy flavours on the nose of this wine lingers on the palate. Smooth tannins through careful oak maturation make this a well balanced wine. The grapes were handpicked. A difficult vine to grow, but ideally suited to the lime-rich soil of the Lordâ€™s terroir.
Chardonnay Pinot Noir Methode Cap Classique. Well-balanced, full-bodied on the palate, with hints of yeastiness on the nose. Bottle matured on the lees for 12 months. Fresh green apple and raspberry aromas. Serve chilled.
Full, fresh tropical / citrus flavours, complexed delicately with soft tannins, to give it crispness on the finish. The grapes were handpicked. Serve chilled. Fermented & matured in French Oak barrels for 8 months.
