This vintage of the Rietvallei White EstÃ©anna 2012 is a blend of 61% Sauvignon Blanc, 26% Chardonnay, 11% Chenin Blanc and 2% Viognier. The wine has forthcoming aromas of green fig and melon, which follow through onto the palate. It shows a crisp acidity and yet has a satisfying creamy weight from the partial barrel fermentation and maturation. The Sauvignon Blanc grapes are picked in different stages of ripeness in order to capture the green, grassy flavours of the earlier, green fruit and then later the more tropical flavours of the ripe fruit. In the cellar the clean juice are inoculated with a special cultivated wine yeast and cold fermented in stainless steel tanks between 13 and 15°C till dry. The 2016 harvest was significantly smaller than the past three vintages. The harvest was a challenge for both viticulturists and winemakers as it was one of the driest growing seasons. Winemakers were faced with lower sugar and acid levels which called for innovative winemaking techniques to produce high quality wine. The smaller crop did however result in the formation of smaller berries with a higher concentration of flavours and colour. Overall the wines are showing exceptional flavour and good structure with a fresh, crisp finish.
